you are not here,
I leave a spot open,
so common the routine, so hard
to break.

Marching for Change

shout loud and clear
all over the country;
demanding change now, we never
back down.

Dialogue Through Maria

We speak for only minutes,
then the line cuts off.

Our conversation
cuts through weak connection,

Yet the island lines
fail to hold on this night.

So thankful for limited talks,
for the hurricane continues

To spread its deadly hand,
thinning supplies cutting off

Its citizens' livelihood.
Your voice remains resilient,

Yet we wonder how much longer
our homeland will suffer.

The Path

Her home was
my safe haven;

More than my
poetry salvation,

It was a place where
confidence flourished,

The path of my
true purpose ready

For me to travel.
I'm unsure how

A misunderstanding
shifted everything,

Yet I still value
my community,

Still moving forward,
your guidance visible,

A few
years have passed, yet
time doesn't completely
resolve old conflicts, the distance

As Dawn Breaks

As dawn breaks,
I think of the life

I once lived
years prior,

Living in the city
that never sleeps,

Learning my purpose
and creativity,

Sharing poetic bonds
with kindred connections.

That purpose still
dwells within, even with

A change of city,
and bonds growing distant.

I still thread my
poetic life,

Never wanting the
pattern to cease.

As I close my eyes,
I think of his warm embrace
this winter evening.
