Sunset

As the setting sun
paints shades of orange across
darkening skies, I
think about the sudden turns
my precious life has taken.

Threading

Threading
your life with mine
is such a joyous act.
Our lives blend in such harmony,
peaceful.

Mom's Healing Words

During my days
of confusion,

Doubt, fear, I wish
I can call you,

Reach out to you
when I am unsure

About the choices
and decisions made.

I try to move through life
with certainty,

Yet there are issues
unresolved, frayed

In my life's tapestry,
and only your

Gentle words and advice
can mend the thread.

Thread of Friendship

Friendships
are like balls
of cherished yarn:

A myriad of
shades and
textures,

Delicate and
worn through
over time.

They endure
many shapes
and changes

Throughout their
use, yet they are
equally loved.

Out of Reach

Soothing words
and stories,

Seemingly
out of reach

As I continue
to follow

My unique
thread of life;

Creating an
intricate path,

Searching for
that connection.

Tension

The thread
of life holds strong,
even with intense strain.
The tension it endures makes it
stronger.

Threaded Words

I reach out and hold
onto words friends and family
threaded in the past
and present, stories etched in
my memory to cherish.

Web of Life (a cinquain)

The web
of life is spun
gently, woven with a
patient hand so one can trace the
fine threads.

Strands (a haiku)

Stories are woven
every day, rich tales revealed
in colorful strands.

Threads of Life (a haibun)

As she begins her next crochet project, she thinks about how each turn of the thread mirrors a bond she has in her life. Each person, each event, represents a strand of thread. Some strands are as smooth as certain paths in life journeys take. Sometimes these strands get caught on the hook and tangle, as some life events hit unexpected blocks. Sometimes these snags take some time to heal. Ultimately, with time and patience, what you wish to accomplish will come into being; that timely project, that long-awaited goal. The achievement may contain the snags and pulls of previous complications, yet that is evidence of a roadblock accomplished, a setback overcome. The completed project mirrors all the bonds and links we share in life; the struggles and surprises we encounter, and the satisfaction on the end result.

Thread tells a story
with each loop and chain. A grand
tapestry is made.

Mend the Thread

Now that I'm at a place
to connect,

to share my
sacred words,

I look back on the
frayed edges in my life,

strands severed by
miscommunication and distance.

I use my words
to mend the thread.

Sever the Thread

Everything has
a beginning, a middle,
and an end.

We spent years
weaving our bonds
together;

Stitching many days
of laughter and tears
into one beautiful
tapestry.

I thought the thread
of our friendship
was infinite,

Yet I understand that
everything has
a beginning, a middle,
and an end.

Things happen for
a reason,

No matter how
complicated.

Sewing the final
seams on our tapestry,

I am now ready
to cut the thread.

--Written back in December 2010, remembering a friendship that ended too abruptly. I moved on, which makes sharing this easier.
