I Call Out to You

I call out to you,
yet you do not respond.

I recall simpler days,
reaching out to one another;

One always there
listening to the other.

As close cousins, bickering
peppered our bond,

Yet that never dissolved
our strong ties.

Instead, subtle twists
in life had its way.

The last time
we really spoke

You were in great need
your aunt's passing

Bearing a huge
weight on your soul;

I tried to lighten the grip
of guilt's heavy hand,

Yet the sorrow rang as clear
as the sadness in your voice.

Years passed, and we've
gone out separate ways;

I still remember the
carefree times,

A stark contrast from the
silence between us today.

I call out to you,
yet you do not respond.
